FSP needs your support! [Mar. 7th, 2008|10:05 am]
LSMSA United

Dear Alumni,

Last year the Science Department began a new program called the Future Scientist Program (FSP).  The goal of the program is to provide students the opportunity to be recognized for their hard work and dedication in any of the STEM areas.  The focus is to get students involved in science and educate them about the opportunities available in science while building character through community service.  Students in FSP are required to perform a minimum of 80 hours of community service, act as ambassadors for the LSMSA Science Department, participate in science competitions of their choosing, and maintain a 3.25 GPA in their science courses and a 3.0 GPA overall.  This year we will honor the inaugural class of FSP students and induct our second class at a banquet to be held on April 19, 2008 at 5:30pm at the National Center for Preservation Technology and Training across from the HSB.  Dr, James Garber, Department Chair of Chemical Engineering and Professor at University of Louisiana Lafayette will be our speaker.  This will be a great event that I am sure the students will enjoy but we need your support.  We anticipate the cost of the banquet to be approximately $500, and we hope to hold this banquet each year for our graduating FSP members.  Please contact us if you would like to make a donation to this year’s banquet or our future FSP fund.  Of course each of you is invited to the banquet as space allows.  Please contact Dr. Mark Ward, Science Department Chair for ways you can help us honor these students or if you want to attend.  He can be contacted via email at mward@lsmsa.edu or you can call him at 318-357-3174 ext. 159.  Thank you for your support.
